Do you review restaurants?
Cooking, baking, imbibing, gardening, food blogging and grocery shopping are my beat, but I — happily — leave restaurant reviews to someone else.
What, you don’t want to be a restaurant critic?
I love reading reviews and working with our restaurant critic to create the food section, but I’d much rather write about the people behind the food than critiquing the food itself. Chefs, farmers and people who care about food have great stories to tell.
So, you must really like to cook?
I’ve always loved to cook, but like most people, what I cook varies dramatically from week to week. Depending the season, my mood and my workload, I’m just as likely to make a cheese quesadilla in the microwave as I am a cheesecake from scratch. Having a picky kid in the house also has a big impact on what we cook.
Let me guess, yogurt and Cheerios?
Close. Yogurt and mac and cheese. Auntie Becca recently reminded us all how much we like Lucky Charms, but we try not to keep them around because we’ll eat a box in two days.
I consume food, and food consumes me.
